Sound Watch Magazine: Manresa Island to be Assembly Site for Walk Bridge?

WHEN WE LAST REPORTED on Manresa Island in
the November/December 2019 issue of Sound Watch
Magazine
, it was an optimistic look at what the future
might hold for the now defunct power plant looming
eerily on 144 acres of an otherwise beautiful natural
shoreline. After the plant closed in 2013, an advocacy
group called the Manresa Association formed to
influence the future use of the property consistent with
environmental and conservation concerns. The Manresa
Association teamed up with the City of Norwalk, issuing
a comprehensive report outlining several alternatives
for redevelopment, including residential (approximately
75 lots), a marina (dockage for 100+ vessels), a solar
array, or an educational nature center. The plans were
exciting, and NRG Energy, the owners of the property,
stated they were ”looking forward to working with the
City of Norwalk toward the eventual redevelopment of
the property.”

“DEEP and CAES Discover an Established Population of Lone Star Ticks Along Coastal Connecticut” -CT.gov

Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) report that a heavy population of the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum, has been detected at Manresa Island (former Norwalk Harbor Station) in South Norwalk, Connecticut, marking the first known established reproducing population in the State.
